Fort Knox was awesome! The kids loved exploring a real life fort with their cousins! Wen went in one batteryand came out another. They ran through dark tunnels and climbed on cannons. Oh and a real cannon was shot into the river every hour on the hour, so when we arrived at the gate at noon we heard one, and were there for an hour so we heard another-and that time they shot 2, boy are they loud! We had 32 people in our group so we were everywhere, we invaded Fort Knox! Our group picture shows our presence.
We piled into our cars and continued driving to Bar Harbor which reminded me a lot of Pier 39 in San Francisco. Pier 39 (and Bar Harbor) is a lot of different souvenir shops and a few restaurants. And everything was over priced.
We found out more about Acadia National Park of which we were already in it's midst. So we left the group and went exploring the park, the kids are really into the Junior Ranger badges. They get to learn what is special about each National Park. This one is all about carriage houses, loons, ocean life, bridges and ...? It isn't a bad deal really, the booklets are fun and it feels a little like a scavenger hunt as we are going through the park.
We drove to the top of Cadillac Mountain and watched the sunset. What a view! We walked around the top of the mountain for the 360 degree view just as the sun was setting. So beautiful but I'll let my pictures show you.
